School of Science and Computing

Dr. Martin RiaraLecturer and Chairman, Department of Physical Sciences.
Specialization area is Material Physics with an interest in biodegradable polymers and silicate materials for architectures. Carried out research on the biodegradability of blends of synthetic polymers and cellulose. In addition, has also explored the autonomous and induced crack healing ability of bituminous materials.

Research Interests

  1. Sustainable and functional construction materials.
  2. Radiation safety and Radiology of non-conventional construction materials.
  3. Plasmonic behavior of transition metals.
  4. Biodegradable polymer composites.

Current research

  • Crack healing of bituminous materials using encapsulated healing agents
  • Waste tire rubber recycling in concrete paving blocks
  • Assessment of the plasmonic behaviour of transition metals
  • Assessment of the radiation safety of unconventional construction materials
