Prof. Johnson U. KithekaProf. Johnson U. Kitheka is a hydrologist by profession, holding BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in hydrology from the University of Nairobi and MSc degree in Oceanography from Gothenburg University in Sweden. He has 30 years working experience on river basin-coastal interlinkages including the study of hydrological processes in rivers and estuarine systems. He is one of the leading experts on river and estuarine sediment transport dynamics including the impacts of upstream land use, development and management activities. Previously, he worked at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) as a Senior Research Officer and at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/Nairobi Convention Secretariat as an Environmental Scientist/Project Officer for the UNEP/GEF WIO-LaB Project. Prof. Kitheka is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Hydrology and Aquatic Sciences at the South Eastern Kenya University. He is an active research scientist who has been involved in the implementation of numerous research and consultancy projects in the country. He has also published extensively in peer reviewed international scientific journals. Prof. Kitheka has also supervised and examined more than 26 postgraduate students in various universities in Kenya.
